Venting......
OK, so I know that not many people follow this website, so I believe that I can vent on here, and believe that it is in a public forum, and yet not many people will have knowledge of it.
Let me start with some of my pet-peeves.....like, if you don't know how to lead, then get your ass back in line and just follow like you have been for the past 20+ years of your life. I believe that everyone should have to serve a period of time in the military....just so you can get the experience. Learn how to be a leader....even the lowest of ranking of persons receive in basic training, leadership.....now your skills might not be mature, but you have the basic groundwork. I am sure that 100% of my military friends will agree that the basic groundwork for leadership is instilled into you from day one. Yes, I might not stary long enough to grow my leadership skills, but I have the groundwork. I'm also sure that 100% of my military friends will agree, that to be a good leader/manager, you can't make everyone happy, and you can't go about trying to be everyone's friends. I know for a fact that I have lost friends due to my leadership/management styles....because I had to put my foot down, and lead. I also know that more of my friends have grown with me and respected my decisions and have respected me as well.......Lesson here?? You can't be wishy-washy and be a leader.....Do you think George S Patton was a spine-less wishy washy person?? Do you think that history would be written as it is, if he wasn't the man he was?? Now I'm not saying that each and every leader needs to be a strict SOB, but grow a pair, put them on the line, and back your troops up. If you can't handle the leadership/management position, then just get out of the way.
How about this...talk to me as an adult, as an equal...respect me and I'll respect you. This sorta rides off of the above paragraph.
I can handle being told I'm wrong, but you better have your case set....don't tell me I'm wrong just because that isn't the way you would do it, or that it's not the way it was done before. To quote the local chineese chef "there are many ways to cook a cat"...LOL....sorry, had to put some humor her. But let's get out of your comfort zone, look at the process and the end results.....was it safe? was it legal? was it morally correct? WAS THE OUTCOME AT ACCEPTABLE STANDARDS OR ABOVE WHAT WAS EXPECTED? If so, then tell me that the results was acceptable, then let's talk about how it got done....yes, you're way might be just as good if not better, but let's discuss it....
I guess I'm just a little burned out this week....no one listens, and it's getting hard to keep morale up from co-workers and subordinates if the leaders above keep pushing down...especially the ones directly above.
Thank you for letting me vent...have a good day!
